Reta is based at our Sunbury clinic and visits Melton specifically to deliver cognitive assessments here. Cognitive assessments evaluate memory, attention, processing speed, executive function and learning, with a written report including practical recommendations. What a cognitive assessment is
A cognitive assessment is structured psychological testing across several cognitive domains. It typically includes standardised tests of:
- Memory — short-term, working memory, verbal and visual memory
- Attention — sustained, selective, divided attention
- Processing speed — how quickly information is processed
- Executive function — planning, organising, problem-solving, mental flexibility
- Learning — verbal and visual learning
- Language where relevant
Common reasons for cognitive assessment
- Academic performance or learning concerns in children, adolescents or adults
- Workplace performance concerns affecting attention, memory or learning
- Post-injury recovery — after concussion or other brain injury
- Part of a wider neurodevelopmental work-up (e.g. alongside ADHD or ASD assessment)
- GP, paediatrician or specialist referral for cognitive profiling
- Suspected age-related cognitive change in older adults
The assessment process
- Intake. Discussion of the reason for assessment, current concerns, and what you're hoping the report will tell you.
- Testing sessions. One or more sessions of standardised testing.
- Synthesis and report. Findings are written up into a report with practical recommendations.
- Feedback session. Going through the report and recommendations in person.

Funding
- Medicare Mental Health Care Plan — rebates apply per session for eligible patients with a GP-issued plan.
- Private health insurance — varies by fund and policy.
- NDIS — for participants whose plan includes psychology.
- Private payment — accepted. Pricing varies by assessment type; reception will outline at intake.
