About 101 Physio Sunbury

The Sunbury clinic is our base for psychology, ADHD and ASD assessments, cognitive assessments and physiotherapy across the Sunbury and Macedon Ranges catchment. Because several services operate from the same clinic, patients who need more than one type of support can often be coordinated more easily. Where clinically relevant and with consent, a physiotherapist may communicate with a psychologist, GP or specialist involved in the person's care. Sunbury is the only 101 Physio clinic where Reta, our psychologist with clinical experience in cognitive behaviour therapy and cognitive assessments, is based — though she also visits our Melton clinic specifically for cognitive assessments.

Services available at our Sunbury clinic

If you are not sure which service is right for you, call reception on (03) 9746 6852 and we will help you decide.

Physiotherapy

Our Sunbury physiotherapists assess and manage musculoskeletal complaints (back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle), sports injuries, work injuries, headache and migraine assessment, post-surgical rehabilitation and chronic-pain management. We work with adults, adolescents and children. Sub-areas include sports physiotherapy, WorkCover physiotherapy, TAC physiotherapy, NDIS physiotherapy and DVA physiotherapy.

Psychology and assessments

Our Sunbury psychology team works with adults, adolescents and children. Funding pathways include private payment, private health rebates (where covered by your fund), Medicare Mental Health Care Plan (eligibility criteria apply), and NDIS where psychology is in your plan. More on psychology at 101 Physio.

ADHD and ASD assessments

Multi-session assessment pathway for children, adolescents and adults: intake, structured clinical interview, validated questionnaires, written report with recommendations. We do not prescribe medication and we do not predict assessment outcomes — the assessment is what the assessment shows. Mariam, one of our psychologists, has clinical experience in ADHD and ASD assessments and works across our Melton and Sunbury clinics. More on ADHD and ASD assessments.

Cognitive assessments

Cognitive assessments evaluate areas including memory, attention, processing speed and executive function. They may be requested in the context of academic performance, occupational demands, post-injury recovery, or as part of a wider neurodevelopmental work-up. Reta, one of our psychologists, is based at Sunbury and has clinical experience in cognitive behaviour therapy and cognitive assessments.

Hydrotherapy

Hydrotherapy starts at Sunbury in June 2026, running at Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre rather than inside the clinic. Sessions involve warm-water-based exercise supervised by a physiotherapist and may be suitable where land-based exercise is uncomfortable or where water-based movement is clinically appropriate. Contact reception to register interest or book once intake opens. More on our hydrotherapy program.

Other treatments and therapies

Shockwave therapy (for certain tendon and plantar conditions, after assessment), dry needling (used by some of our physiotherapists as part of a wider plan), and clinical Pilates (small-group or individual exercise sessions supervised by a physiotherapist). Whether any of these is suitable for you depends on your assessment — your clinician will discuss the options.

Not offered at Sunbury: Podiatry (Melton clinic only), remedial massage and myotherapy (Melton clinic only). If you live in the Sunbury catchment but need podiatry, our reception team can help you book at Melton or refer you closer to home.

Conditions our Sunbury physiotherapists commonly see

A non-exhaustive list of reasons people book physiotherapy at our Sunbury clinic:

What we work on with you depends on your assessment. Some people see us for a single session; others need a longer plan. Treatment may involve manual therapy, exercise prescription, dry needling where appropriate, education on managing the condition at home, and coordination with your GP or specialist when relevant.

Your first appointment at 101 Physio Sunbury

Before the appointment. All Sunbury appointments are by booking. You don't need a referral for physiotherapy — it's a primary contact profession in Australia and you can book directly. For Medicare-rebated allied health (under a GP Chronic Disease Management plan), Medicare Mental Health Care Plan psychology, WorkCover, TAC, NDIS or DVA cover, you will need the paperwork in place — call reception if you are unsure what applies to you.

What to bring.

  • Any referral letter, GP plan or specialist correspondence relevant to your visit
  • Imaging — scans, X-rays or reports if you have them (a "bring if you have")
  • Your Medicare card, private health card, WorkCover/TAC claim number, NDIS plan or DVA card as relevant
  • Comfortable clothing you can move in. For physiotherapy, exposing the area being assessed often helps (shorts for knees and lower back; a sleeveless top for shoulders) — your clinician will adjust to what you're comfortable with.
  • For ADHD, ASD or cognitive assessments: any prior reports, school feedback or workplace documentation that may be relevant — reception will tell you what to bring at intake.

At the appointment. A first physiotherapy session is usually 30–45 minutes. Psychology first sessions are typically 50–60 minutes. ADHD, ASD and cognitive assessments span multiple sessions; the pathway is explained at intake. Your clinician will ask about the problem, your goals, your history, and discuss a plan with you. You can ask questions at any time.

After the appointment. Reception will help you book any follow-up, claim through HICAPS if you have private health extras cover, and provide receipts you can submit to your fund or workplace where relevant.

Suburbs we serve from our Sunbury clinic

Our Sunbury clinic draws patients from across the Macedon Ranges and the northern edge of metropolitan Melbourne. Beyond Sunbury itself, our catchment includes Diggers Rest, Bulla, Riddells Creek, Gisborne, Gisborne South, Macedon, Lancefield, Romsey, Woodend, Clarkefield, Wildwood and Oaklands Junction. If your suburb is not listed, call us — we likely cover you.

Funding and payment options

We work with most common funding pathways. Eligibility for each depends on your individual circumstances and the funding body's rules — we'll confirm at intake and let you know any out-of-pocket gap before treatment begins.

  • Private health insurance. HICAPS on-site for on-the-spot claiming. Rebates vary by fund and policy.
  • Medicare — Enhanced Primary Care / Chronic Disease Management. Up to 5 Medicare-rebated allied-health sessions per calendar year for patients with a chronic-condition plan from their GP. A gap above the Medicare rebate may apply.
  • Medicare — Mental Health Care Plan. For psychology, set rebates apply per session for eligible patients with a GP plan.
  • WorkCover. For accepted WorkCover claims, physiotherapy may be funded where it is approved and clinically related to the workplace injury. Reception can help you understand what details we need before your first appointment.
  • TAC. For accepted TAC claims, physiotherapy may be funded where it is approved and related to the transport accident. Any out-of-pocket costs depend on the claim setup and approvals.
  • NDIS. NDIS participants may be able to access physiotherapy, psychology or related supports where these are included in their plan. Please contact reception to confirm whether we can support your plan type and goals.
  • DVA. Gold and White cardholders may be eligible — bring your card and any referral.
  • Private payment. Accepted for any service. Contact reception for the current fee schedule.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a referral to book at 101 Physio Sunbury?

No, not for physiotherapy — it's a primary contact profession, so you can book directly. A referral is required for some funded pathways: Medicare Enhanced Primary Care, WorkCover, TAC, DVA, and (for Medicare-rebated psychology) a Mental Health Care Plan from your GP. For private psychology sessions, no referral is required.

How long is a first appointment at Sunbury?

Most first physiotherapy appointments are 30–45 minutes. Psychology first sessions are typically 50–60 minutes. ADHD, ASD and cognitive assessments span multiple sessions — the full pathway is explained at intake.

Do you offer podiatry at Sunbury?

Not currently. Podiatry is offered at our Melton clinic only. Patients in the Sunbury catchment are welcome to attend Melton for podiatry, or reception can refer you to a podiatrist closer to home.

Can I claim on the spot with my health fund?

Yes — HICAPS is on-site at Sunbury. Most major Australian health funds are supported, so you only pay the gap.

Where does hydrotherapy happen?

Sunbury hydrotherapy starts in June 2026 and will run at the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre rather than inside the clinic. Reception can take expressions of interest now and confirm session times closer to launch.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes — all visits to our Sunbury clinic are by appointment. Call reception on (03) 9746 6852 or book online.

I'm not sure which service I need — can you help?

Reception can help guide you toward the most appropriate first appointment. If clinical input is needed before booking, we will let you know the next step.

For non-urgent enquiries, contact us by email or through the website form. For urgent or severe symptoms, please contact your GP, after-hours doctor, or 000 — physiotherapy is not an emergency service.
