Exercise Rehabilitation in Melton, Hoppers Crossing & Sunbury

Exercise rehabilitation at 101 Physio & Allied Health

Exercise rehabilitation is structured, supervised exercise prescribed by a physiotherapist as part of a recovery or management plan. It's not the same as a gym program: the exercises, load and progression are matched to your assessment and reviewed as you go. It's one of the most evidence-supported parts of physiotherapy across a wide range of conditions. Available at all three of our clinics. To book, call (03) 9746 6852 or book online.

For general public information, see healthdirect Australia's physical activity guidance.

When exercise rehabilitation is appropriate

  • Recovery from sports or work injuries
  • Post-surgical rehabilitation (knee, hip, shoulder, lumbar)
  • Chronic pain management — back, neck, knee, hip
  • Tendinopathy management (Achilles, patellar, gluteal, rotator cuff)
  • Osteoarthritis management — particularly knee and hip OA
  • Return-to-sport programs for athletes
  • Falls prevention and balance retraining for older adults
  • Conditioning after extended illness or hospitalisation
  • NDIS-funded participants working on mobility, strength or function goals

What it looks like

Exercise rehabilitation usually involves a small number of specific exercises (typically 3–6) progressed over time. We start at a level that's challenging but tolerable, and adjust based on your response. Some sessions are entirely in-clinic with the physiotherapist; others are partly at home or in a gym, with check-ins at the clinic.

Equipment used depends on the program — from bodyweight and resistance bands through to weights, pulleys and clinical Pilates equipment. We don't push a particular brand of training; we use what fits your situation.

What an appointment may involve

  1. Assessment — physiotherapy assessment of the relevant area and your goals.
  2. Initial exercise prescription — usually 3–6 specific exercises with clear instructions on dose and form.
  3. Practice and adjustment — you practise during the session; we refine form and intensity.
  4. Home program — written or video instructions so you can continue between sessions.
  5. Review and progression — exercises advance as you tolerate more load.

Funding

  • Private health insurance — HICAPS on-site for on-the-spot claiming.
  • Medicare EPC / Chronic Disease Management — eligible patients with a GP plan.
  • WorkCover, TAC, NDIS, DVA — where eligible.
  • Private payment — accepted.

Funding eligibility depends on your circumstances, referral and appointment type. Please contact reception if unsure.
