Physiotherapy is the largest part of what we do at 101 Physio. Our AHPRA-registered physiotherapists work with adults, adolescents and children across Melton, Hoppers Crossing and Sunbury — managing musculoskeletal, sporting, work-related, motor-vehicle and post-surgical conditions, as well as chronic-pain presentations and rehabilitation under WorkCover, TAC, NDIS, DVA and Medicare-managed care. This page explains what physiotherapy at 101 Physio involves, who it may help, where it is offered, and how funding and booking work. We don't promise particular outcomes — we assess, we plan, and we adjust as you progress. To book, call (03) 9746 6852 or book online.

What is physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the assessment, diagnosis and management of conditions affecting movement, function and pain. It is a regulated health profession in Australia — all our physiotherapists are registered with AHPRA. Physiotherapy works across several different areas of care:
- Musculoskeletal — back, neck, shoulder, hip, knee, foot and ankle problems; sports and work injuries; post-surgical rehabilitation.
- Neurological — supporting movement and function after stroke, with multiple sclerosis, Parkinson's, and similar conditions.
- Paediatric — children's movement difficulties, developmental delay, and sports-related issues.
- Cardiopulmonary — supporting recovery from major surgery or extended illness.
- Vestibular — dizziness and balance problems where the inner-ear system is involved.
Treatment may involve hands-on manual therapy, exercise prescription, education about your condition, dry needling where clinically appropriate, hydrotherapy as part of a wider plan, and coordination with your GP, specialist or workplace.
Who may benefit from physiotherapy?
People typically book physiotherapy when one or more of these is true:
- You have pain or limited function that affects work, sport or daily life
- You've been injured (sport, work, motor vehicle, fall) and need assessment and rehabilitation
- You're recovering from surgery and need a structured rehab plan
- You have a chronic condition (arthritis, chronic low-back pain, neurological diagnosis) and want help managing it
- You're an NDIS participant whose plan includes physiotherapy or related supports
- You have an accepted WorkCover, TAC or DVA claim and need treatment
- Your GP has recommended physiotherapy under a Chronic Disease Management plan
- You want a clinical opinion on something a coach, trainer or GP has flagged
Whether physiotherapy is the right next step for you depends on your assessment. If we think a different practitioner or service would help more, we will tell you and arrange the referral.
What your physiotherapy appointment may involve
A first physiotherapy appointment at any of our clinics is usually 30 to 45 minutes. It typically includes:
- History. The problem — how it started, what makes it better or worse, what you've already tried — plus medical history, work and activity, and your goals.
- Physical assessment. Range of movement, strength, specific tests for the suspected condition, and screening of related areas.
- Goal discussion. What you want out of the plan — return to a sport, getting through the working day more comfortably, managing a flare.
- Plan. What we think is going on, options for management, proposed plan including session frequency, and how we'll measure progress.
- Treatment where clinically appropriate. Manual therapy, exercise prescription, dry needling where suitable.
- Home advice and exercises. A small number of specific things to do between sessions.
- Communication with your wider care team. With consent, we communicate with your GP, specialist, case manager or surgeon where it supports your plan.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral to see a physiotherapist?
No — physiotherapy is a primary contact profession in Australia, so you can book directly. A referral is required for some funded pathways: Medicare Enhanced Primary Care, WorkCover, TAC and DVA.
How long is a first physiotherapy appointment?
Most first appointments are 30 to 45 minutes — long enough for a proper assessment and a discussion of the plan. Follow-up session lengths are agreed at the end of the first session.
How do I choose between your three clinics?
Start with the clinic closest to where you live or work. If you need a service that's not at your closest clinic (for example, podiatry is at Melton only), reception will guide you. Practitioner availability varies by day, so reception will also help match you with the right physiotherapist.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Any referral letter or GP plan, imaging or operation reports you have, your Medicare card and private health card, WorkCover/TAC/NDIS/DVA documentation as relevant, and comfortable clothing you can move in.
Can I claim physiotherapy on the spot with my private health fund?
Yes — HICAPS is on-site at all three clinics. Most major Australian health funds are supported, so you only pay the gap.
Do you treat children?
Yes — children's physiotherapy is available at all three clinics. A parent or guardian is welcome in the appointment with younger children.
Can you communicate with my GP or specialist?
Yes — with your consent, we routinely write to GPs, specialists, case managers and surgeons where it supports your care.
